Official legislative records are preferred for bill status, votes, sponsorship and committee action.
Every CALM edition identifies the period of legislative activity being measured.
Documented factual errors may be corrected without permitting political negotiation of the grade.
Leadership titles such as Speaker, committee chair or majority leader do not themselves constitute a CALM grade.
A CALM legislative grade does not automatically constitute a Maynard Action P.A.C. candidate endorsement.
Confirm bill number, current text, sponsor, committee and amendment status.
Review the measure against the CALM policy rubric and relevant issue priorities.
Adopt an internal position: Endorse, Support if Amended, Watch or Oppose.
Prepare the Maynard legislative position or endorsement memorandum.
Provide the sponsor or legislative office with the organization's position.
Seek an opportunity to brief the member or staff on the policy rationale.
Add the bill to the public slate and continue tracking legislative action.
Votes, sponsorship, committee leadership and subsequent actions may inform future accountability scoring.
Legislative advocacy, lobbying activity, client records and applicable lobbying registration and reporting.
Political activity, candidate evaluation, applicable campaign-finance activity and PAC endorsements.
Nonprofit charitable and educational activity. Candidate campaign intervention is separate from Foundation activity.
